James Gaffigan

James Gaffigan makes his Houston Grand Opera debut with The Marriage of Figaro. He was recently appointed chief conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and principal guest conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. The New York City native’s recent opera credits include Mozart’s Così fan tutte for Glyndebourne and Verdi’s Falstaff for Glyndebourne’s touring company, and Mozart’s Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro at the Aspen Music Festival. He has also conducted Puccini’s La bohème at Zurich Opera. Mr. Gaffigan’s international career was launched when he won the Georg Solti International Conducting Competition in 2004 and he is now in demand across the globe. He has been a guest artist with the Philadelphia Orchestra; the Symphony Orchestras of Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Minnesota, Dallas, Detroit, Houston and Baltimore; the National Symphony Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. In Europe, he has appeared with the Philharmonic Orchestras of Munich and Rotterdam, the German Symphony Orchestra in Berlin, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich, Bournemouth Symphony, Camerata Salzburg, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and the Radio Orchestras of Leipzig and Stuttgart.
