About the Artist: Flimm currently serves as intendant at Berlin State Opera. He has served as president of the German Stage Association (1999 – 2003), director for drama at the Salzburg Festival (2002 – 2004), director of the RuhrTriennale (2005 – 2007), and artistic director of the Salzburg Festival (2007 – 2010). His operatic productions have been staged in the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, England, Italy, and the United States. Recently, Flimm has worked on productions by Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Verdi, Gounod, Stravinsky, and others at La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan and Zurich operas, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Berlin, Hamburg, and Vienna state operas. Flimm was professor at the University of Hamburg; is a member of the Academies of Arts in Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, and Frankfurt; and is an honorary doctor of the University of Hildesheim. He has received the Medal for Art and Science of the Free and Hanse Town Hamburg, the Konrad Wolf Prize of the Academy of Arts in Berlin, and the Austrian Cross of Honor for Arts and Sciences.
