Houston Grand Opera Studio Alumna Jamie Barton sings Driade in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos at HGO this spring. Last season she made her Metropolitan Opera debut as the Third Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, a role she reprises this season. Her other recent operatic engagements include Marcellina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Suzuki in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly and Annina in Verdi’s La traviata at Opera Theatre of St. Louis and the witch in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel at Aspen Opera Theater. Ms. Barton has appeared in numerous roles at Houston Grand Opera, including Giovanna in Verdi’s Rigoletto at both the Wortham Theater Center and Miller Outdoor Theatre, Ursula in Berlioz’s Beatrice and Benedict and Mary Norton in the world premiere of Brief Encounter by André Previn. She has performed in recital with former HGO Head of Music Staff Kathleen Kelly at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.
