  • CATHERINE JANE MERCHANT

Catherine Merchant was first appointed to the HGO Board of Trustees by founder Elva Lobit in 1960, although her involvement with HGO began two years earlier. It was then that she attended her first HGO board meeting with her friend Lois Townsend, who was singing the role of the Marschallin in the company's production of Der Rosenkavalier in the 1958–59 season. Catherine volunteered to work backstage for the production, becoming the company's very first props manager.

  • ELIZABETH PHILLIPS

HGO donor Elizabeth Phillips has been subscribing since 1987, the year the Wortham Theater Center opened—in fact, she's had the same seats for twenty-five years. Her tastes in opera are wide-ranging—her favorites include Mozart's Don Giovanni, Wagner's Tannhäuser, and Dvořák's Rusalka. Her favorite HGO production was Puccini's Turandot, and she supported our most recent production of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro in 2011.
