Harry Silverstein has directed all of the Mozart and da Ponte operas, The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte, at Houston Grand Opera. He is the artistic heir to the late director Göran Järvefelt, and directs his productions at leading opera houses throughout the opera world. His many notable Mozart credits include Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte at the Dallas Opera, Idomeneo at Opera Northern Ireland, and The Magic Flute for DePaul Opera Theatre. Also esteemed for his direction of more contemporary works, Mr. Silverstein directed the European premiere of The Making of the Representative for Planet Eight at English National Opera, Satyagraha at San Francisco Opera and Seattle Opera, Akhnaten at English National Opera and New York City Opera. Mr. Silverstein has directed Verdi’s La traviata at Lyric Opera of Chicago and San Francisco Opera, and Puccini’s Madame Butterfly for Victorian State Opera in Melbourne, Australia and Aukland Opera in New Zealand. His numerous credits at the Dallas Opera include Verdi’s Rigoletto and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. He has also directed Verdi’s Il trovatore at Tulsa Opera, Puccini’s Tosca for Michigan Opera Theater and Opera Pacific, and Saint-Saëns’s Samson and Delilah for Opera Omaha. Next season he will direct Mozart’s The Magic Flute at San Francisco Opera.
