About the Artist: Daniel Belcher won a Grammy Award in 2011 for his recording of the leading role of Jaufré Rudel in Kaija Saariaho’s L’amour de Loin (Harmonia Mundi) in the Best Opera Recording category; in Europe, the recording received the Diapason d’Or award. During the 2011–12 season, Belcher sang Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet in Bilbao, Spain; Chou En-Lai in Nixon in China with Lyric Opera of Kansas City; and Dandini in Rossini’s Cinderella with Madison Opera. He ended the season at the Netherlands Opera portraying Robert F. Kennedy in the world premiere of Robin de Raaff’s Waiting for Miss Monroe. Other past engagements include performing in the world premiere of Luigi Cherubini’s Koukourgi, Taddeo in The Italian Girl in Algiers for Florentine Opera, the title role in Gianni Schicchi and the Husband in The Breasts of Tiresias with Central City Opera, and Dandini in Rossini’s Cinderella with Opera Colorado.
