About the Artist: Christopher Turbessi has been an Emerging Artist at Virginia Opera, principal coach at Syracuse Opera, and a fellowship pianist at the Aspen Opera Theater Center, coaching operas ranging from Gluck's Armide to André Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire and John Harbison's The Great Gatsby. He served as assistant conductor for Virginia Opera's production of The Marriage of Figaro and chorus master for Syracuse Opera's Madame Butterfly and The Pearl Fishers. In addition to a recital and master class in Michigan, he has also accompanied for Toledo Opera, Songfest, and two study-abroad vocal programs in Italy. He holds a master of music degree in collaborative piano from the University of Michigan, where he studied with Martin Katz. Turbessi coaches four operas during the 2014-15 season at HGO (Otello, The Magic Flute, and Die Walküre) and appears with the HGO Studio in recital at Rienzi and in various other performances. He was the principal coach for the workshop for Prince of Players, a new work by Carlisle Floyd that HGO will premiere next season.
