About the Artist: Christopher Turbessi has been an Emerging Artist at Virginia Opera, principal coach at Syracuse Opera, and a fellowship pianist at the Aspen Opera Theater Center, coaching operas ranging from Gluck’s Armide to André Previn’s A Streetcar Named Desire and John Harbison’s The Great Gatsby. He served as assistant conductor for Virginia Opera’s production of The Marriage of Figaro and chorus master for Syracuse Opera’s Madame Butterfly and The Pearl Fishers. Song engagements include a recital with HGO Studio singers at Balliol College in Oxford and a recital and masterclass at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. He holds a master of music degree in collaborative piano from the University of Michigan, where he studied with Martin Katz. Turbessi coaches three operas during the 2014–15 season at HGO (Otello, The Magic Flute, and Die Walküre) and appears with the HGO Studio in recital at Rienzi and in various other performances. He was the principal coach for the workshop for Prince of Players, a new work by Carlisle Floyd that HGO will premiere next season.
