About the Artist: Maestro Carlo Rizzi has appeared with the greatest orchestras of the world and such opera companies as La Scala; the Metropolitan Opera; the Royal Opera, Covent Garden; La Monnaie; Zurich Opera; Paris National Opera; and the Netherlands Opera. He has held the post of music director of Welsh National Opera (WNO) twice—from 2004 to 2008 and from 1992 to 2001. At WNO, Rizzi conducted Fidelio, Boris Godunov, Peter Grimes, Tristan and Isolde, The Turn of the Screw, The Rake’s Progress, Der Rosenkavalier, Katya Kabanova, Salome, Ariadne auf Naxos, and The Flying Dutchman with Bryn Terfel. In the 100th season of the BBC Proms, he conducted the WNO Orchestra in its first symphonic Promenade concert. During his directorship the Orchestra also won many awards, including that of the Royal Philharmonic Society. Since 1996, he has been a regular guest in concerts at the Edinburgh International Festival. Recent and upcoming orchestral appearances in North America include engagements with the Dallas Symphony and the Minnesota Orchestra, and internationally, concerts with the National Orchestra of France, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hague Philharmonic, the Strasbourg Philharmonic, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and many others.
