About the Artist: Oberle studied at Akademie der Bildenden Kuenste in Munich with Rudolf Heinrich. He has worked as designer and consultant at Harvard University’s Loeb Drama Center, and has been set and costume designer for drama and opera at numerous theaters in Germany, Europe, the United States, and Australia since 1972. With Opera Australia, Oberle has worked on productions including The Magic Flute, L’incoronazione di Poppea, La clemenza de Tito, Idomeneo, Don Giovanni, Der Rosenkavalier, The Macropulous Case, and Billy Budd. Productions for Santa Fe Opera include Elektra, Imtermezzo, Die Schweigsame Frau, Le nozze di Figaro, Friedenstag, Feuersnot, and Daphne. Costume design for Welsh National Opera has included The Magic Flute, Un ballo in maschera, La traviata, the Ring cycle, Der Rosenkavalier, Billy Budd, and Don Carlos. Other productions have included Othello, Dreamplay, Parsifal, Hänsel und Gretel, Return of Ulysses, La bohème, Tannhäuser, Salome, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Vinzent, Luisa Miller, Lohengrin, Don Carlos, The Demon, Love for Three Oranges, Rodelinda, Eugene Onegin, Phil Glass’ Beauty and the Beast, and Tristan und Isolde, among others. His work has been seen at State Theatre Company of South Australia; Royal Opera House (Stockholm); Royal Opera Copenhagen; the state operas of Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, and South Australia; the Erfurt, Finnish National, Frankfurt, Nuerenberg, and Zurich operas; at the Bregenz Festival and Händel Festival Halle; as well as in Amsterdam, Geneva, and Vancouver, among other locations. Current works in preparation are Janácek’s The Cunning Little Vixen in Munich, Bartok’s Duke Bluebeard’s Castle and Franz Hummel’s Blaubart in Bremen, and Wagner’s Ring in Leipzig. Recordings include video of The Marriage of Figaro, Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni, and Der Rosenkavalier for Opera Australia; and Le nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail in Drottningholm; Hänsel und Gretel for Swedish Television; Die Sieben Todsunden for Bayerischer Rundfunk; and Noach for Radio Bremen and Deutsches Tanzfilminstitut.
