Bass Carlo Lepore sings Dr. Bartolo in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro this spring, and was last heard here in the same role in 2005. A native of Naples, Italy, he has established himself as a leading interpreter of the Italian—especially bel canto—bass repertoire. He appeared earlier this season as Don Basilio in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, Belgium; Leporello in Don Giovanni in Bergamo and Lucca, Italy; and Uberto in Pergolesi’s La serva padrona in at the Teatro Comunale Pergolesi in Jesi, Italy. Other notable credits include Mustafà in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri at Saxon State Opera in Dresden, the Teatro Regio in Turin and in Las Palmas, Spain; Dr. Bartolo in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo; the title role of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale at Toulon Opera in Provence, France; and Dr. Dulcamara in Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love in Dijon.
