About the Artist: In the 2013–14 season, Craig Kier will make his conducting debuts with Lyric Opera of Kansas City with La bohème and the Maryland Opera Studio with Albert Herring, conduct Atlanta Opera’s The Barber of Seville, and join Houston Ballet for his third season as guest conductor. In 2012, Kier made his conducting debut with Glimmerglass Opera leading Weill’s Lost in the Stars and went on tour with that company to conduct The Music Man at the Royal Opera House Muscat (Oman). In addition to his work as associate conductor and assistant chorus master with Houston Grand Opera, he has served as assistant conductor with Seattle Opera, The Santa Fe Opera, Atlanta Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Colorado, Berkshire Opera, Opera New Jersey, Opera Birmingham, and Des Moines Metro Opera. He conducted Gianni Schicchi in a joint project between Seattle Opera and the Yakima Symphony Orchestra, and Orfeo and Euridice, The Magic Flute, and Porgy and Bess for Atlanta Opera. He returned to The Santa Fe Opera during the summer of 2013 to serve as cover conductor for Rossini’s La donna del lago. Later this season at HGO, he conducts the world premiere of the HGOco East + West commission Bound.
