About the Artist: Goerke has appeared in the major opera houses of the world including the Metropolitan, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Washington National, Seattle, New York City, Glimmerglass, and Paris operas; Royal Opera House; La Scala; and at the Maggio Musical Fiorentio and Saito Kinen festivals. She has sung much of the great soprano repertoire, beginning with the Mozart and Handel heroines and now moving into dramatic Strauss and Wagner roles. She has received acclaim for her portrayals of the title roles in Aridane auf Naxos, Elektra, Norma, and Iphigenie en Tauride, as well as her portrayals of Leonora in Fidelio, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes, Female Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia, Alice in Falstaff, and Madame Lidone in Dialogues des Carmelites. Goerke has appeared with a number of leading orchestras including the New York and Los Angeles philharmonics; the Boston, Chicago, and National symphony orchestras; Cleveland Orchestra; the Houston and Sydney symphonies; and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Goerke's vast discography includes Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony with Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony; Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes, Poulenc's Stabat Mater, Szymanowski's Stabat Mater, and Dvorak's Stabat Mater, all with the late Robert Shaw. This season, Goerke makes her debut in Madrid in Elektra, appears in concert with the New World and Seattle symphonies, and sings her first performances of Brünnhilde in Die Walküre with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. She was the recipient of the 2001 Richard Tucker Award.
