British designer Bunny Christie returns to Houston Grand Opera on the heels of her company debut alongside director John Caird with set and costume designs for the world premiere of Brief Encounter by André Previn. Ms. Christie’s opera designs have been seen at Chichester Festival Theatre (Carmen) and English Touring Opera (The Marriage of Figaro, Così fan tutte and Lucia di Lamermoor). She has designed numerous plays for the Royal National Theatre including Women of Troy, The Philistines, The Lives of Galileo, A Streetcar Named Desire and War & Peace as well as Family Reunion and After Miss Julie at the Donmar Warehouse and As You Like It for Shakespeare’s Globe Theater. Among her awards and honors are the 2003 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for A Streetcar Named Desire and the 2000 London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Baby Doll, both at the Royal National Theatre. She designed Kenneth Branagh’s screen adaptations of Anton Chekov’s Swan Song (1992) and Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (1988).
