About the Artist:
Christian Pursell appeared in the world premiere of Gregory Spears’s Fellow Travelers, sang the Jailer in Tosca, and made a solo performance with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra in his debut season with Cincinnati Opera. As a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati College–Conservatory of Music (CCM), Pursell was engaged by Opera Fusion: New Works to sing Abdullah in Jack Perla’s Shalimar the Clown and returned last fall to workshop the role of Tom in Laura Kaminsky’s Some Light Emerges. Recent roles include Pandolfe in Massenet’s Cendrillon and Harašta in The Cunning Little Vixen at CCM; the Herald in Rigoletto at Opera San Jose; Marcello in La bohème at San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM); and Belcore in L’elisir d’amore at SFCM and the Kennedy Center. Upcoming engagements include Pilate in a staged production of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (CCM) and Dandini in La Cenerentola (Merola Opera Program).
