HGOco
Mexico 2010 & 2013
  • Through Mexico 2010, Song of Houston commemorated the anniversaries of Mexico's Independence and Revolution, explored the enduring bonds and divisions between Mexico and the United States, and celebrated the incredible migration of the Monarch butterfly.

In March 2013, Houston Grand Opera (HGO) will remount their 41st world premiere, Cruzar la Cara de la Luna / To Cross the Face of the Moon, which was commissioned through Song of Houston. To Cross the Face of the Moon chronicles three generations of one family, divided by countries and by cultures. This opera, composed for Mariachi and voices by José "Pepe" Martínez of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, after a libretto by Leonard Foglia, premiered as part of Mexico 2010.

Mexico 2013 will celebrate the return of To Cross the Face of the Moon on HGO's stage, with various community engagement activities throughout Houston during the 2012–13 season.
