Houston Grand Opera is thrilled to count Robert Douglas “Doug” Lawler as one of the newest members of HGO's board of directors. During HGO's 2012–13 season, he served as the corporate trustee representative of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, one of HGO's
leading corporate partners.

In June 2013, he left Anadarko to become president and chief executive officer of Chesapeake Energy Co., where he also serves on the board of directors. Headquartered in Oklahoma City, Chesapeake is the second-largest producer of natural gas, a top-15 producer of oil and natural gas liquids, and the most active driller of new wells in the United States. The company's operations are focused on discovering and developing unconventional natural gas and oil fields onshore in the United States.

Doug began his career at Kerr-McGee, which was acquired by Anadarko in 2006. Over the course of his twenty-five-year tenure with both companies, he held various leadership positions, most recently serving as senior vice president, international and deepwater operations, and as a member of Anadarko's Executive Committee.

In addition to his recent involvement with the HGO community as a member of the board, he is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the World Affairs Council, and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. He holds a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from Rice University. He and his wife, Tara, reside in Oklahoma City and have five children.
