HGO donor Elizabeth Phillips has been subscribing since 1987, the year the Wortham Theater Center opened—in fact, she's had the same seats for twenty-five years. Her tastes in opera are wide-ranging—her favorites include Mozart's Don Giovanni, Wagner's Tannhäuser, and Dvořák's Rusalka. Her favorite HGO production was Puccini's Turandot, and she supported our most recent production of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro in 2011. Figaro was the first production she supported specifically, and she enjoyed the chance it gave her to get a real behind-the-scenes view of HGO. She is also a frequent guest at the Opera Unwrapped series, and attended the first HGO Book Series in 2011.

A retired psychotherapist, Elizabeth grew up in Bronxville, New York; her first opera was La bohème at the Metropolitan Opera. She is married to John W. Shannon, a retired engineer. In addition to HGO, she travels to see opera in San Francisco, in New York, and in Europe. But she especially loves Houston, her home since 1964, not just for HGO, but for its entire vibrant arts community.
