About the Artist: Duane Schuler has achieved international acclaim as a lighting designer for numerous opera, ballet, and theater companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, La Scala, New York City Opera, Manhattan Theatre Club, Salzburg Festival, Deutsche Oper Berlin, American Ballet Theatre, and the opera companies of Dresden, Vienna, Barcelona, and Amsterdam. This season, his work will be seen in Werther at Lyric Opera of Chicago; Otello at the Metropolitan Opera; Robert le diable at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden; and The Flying Dutchman at Los Angeles Opera. Recent opera productions in Europe include Elektra (Rome), The Queen of Spades (Lyon), Salome (Baden-Baden), and Massenet's Cinderella (Royal Opera, Covent Garden, DVD available). His work in theater includes productions for Broadway (most recently last year's The Importance of Being Earnest), Manhattan Theatre Club, and the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. Schuler is a founding partner of Schuler Shook, a theater planning and architectural lighting design firm (Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas).
